Rick Oswald
President & Partner
With over 45 years of expertise in residential and commercial architecture and construction, Rick Oswald serves as President and Partner. Known for his unique ability to envision and guide projects from design through to construction, Rick brings both strategic insight and hands-on experience to every project. For the past 16 years, Rick has played a significant role in shaping the architectural landscape of the Sarasota area. His leadership is built on a deep commitment to quality, innovation, and a seamless integration of design and functionality.
Daniel Shaffer, AIA
Vice-President
As the youngest partner, Daniel brings fresh perspective and innovation to every project he is involved in. His focus and drive allow him to guide the team to produce drawings to the high standard that CMSA has shown for decades. He is a licensed architect in Florida, a board member of the Gulf Coast Florida AIA Chapter, and an avid volunteer in the community. His experience includes custom residential, sustainable design, and small scale commercial projects.

Clifford M. Scholz: A Legacy in Architecture
For over five decades, Clifford M. Scholz has shaped the architectural landscape of Southwest Florida, blending timeless elegance with thoughtful design. As the founder of CMSA Architects in 1992, he has led a team responsible for crafting some of the region’s most admired luxury residences, private clubs, and commercial landmarks. His meticulous attention to scale and proportion has made his work stand out, earning him national recognition in design publications and features on HGTV.
Scholz’s career journey began at the University of Miami before leading him to Palm Beach, Tampa, and ultimately Sarasota, where his first major project, The Oaks, set the foundation for a prolific career. His portfolio includes Gulf-front estates, historic renovations, and innovative commercial projects, all infused with a deep respect for architectural authenticity. His ability to adapt and refine his designs over the years has kept his work fresh and enduring, with many clients returning for multiple projects.
As he steps into retirement after 55 years in the industry, Scholz leaves behind a legacy of excellence, creativity, and community impact. Though he transitions from his leadership role at CMSA, his influence and expertise remain integral to the firm’s future.
