Modern Four Square

Traditional Form Reinterpreted for Coastal Living

This Modern Four Square Sarasota waterfront residence reinterprets traditional American Foursquare architecture through a modern coastal lens. Defined by disciplined geometry, sculptural roof forms, and expansive glazing, the home balances timeless proportion with contemporary clarity. As a result, the design was required to perform from every angle on its prominent Bird Key corner site. In response, CMSA developed symmetrical façades, refined rooflines, and wraparound porches that give equal architectural presence to all elevations while reinforcing a strong sense of order and permanence. Meanwhile, a restrained palette of stone, stucco, and glass grounds the exterior, while covered porches and open patios extend living spaces outdoors. Inside, floor-to-ceiling glazing and a 46-foot sliding door dissolve the boundary between interior and exterior, creating light-filled spaces attuned to Sarasota’s climate and waterfront lifestyle. Ultimately, rooftop terraces and layered outdoor environments maximize views across the bay and skyline, supporting both everyday living and large-scale entertaining. Recognized on the Luxe Interiors + Design 2026 Gold List and honored by SRQ Magazine, the project reflects CMSA’s commitment to site-responsive, enduring residential architecture.
