Why the Right Inputs Matter More Than Ever

AI can feel intimidating—like it’s a tech thing meant for coders or creatives. But if you’ve ever used Google Translate, you already understand one of the most important things about working with AI: it only gives you a good answer if you give it a good prompt.

Just like with Google Translate, if you plug in an English sentence with five different meanings for the same word, you might get a translation that technically makes sense—but doesn’t capture what you actually meant. AI tools are the same way. They don’t read your mind. They follow your direction. The better you are at framing your question or request, the better the response you’ll get.

I’ve learned this firsthand while experimenting with AI in my own workflow—whether it’s drafting a professional email, organizing content ideas, or brainstorming marketing captions. If I ask something vague, I get something vague. If I give it context and explain the tone I’m going for? Game-changer.

And sometimes, AI makes me laugh out loud. Like the time I asked it to write a thank-you note for someone who “went above and beyond,” and it spit out a five-paragraph speech that sounded like I was nominating them for a Nobel Peace Prize. Or when I typed, “make this sound warmer,” and it literally added the word cozy four times. AI can follow directions—but sometimes it takes them a little too literally.

Just like with Translate, understanding just enough of the language helps. With Translate, that might mean knowing the difference between “formal” and “familiar” tenses. With AI, it’s learning how to write a good prompt—like “Make this email more concise” or “Rewrite this paragraph in a friendly, professional tone.”

And here’s the kicker: both tools can make your life easier, but they still require you to make the final call. Does the tone sound right? Does the translation really say what you meant? AI and Google Translate aren’t shortcuts for thinking—they’re companions for refining.

So if you’re new to AI, don’t be afraid of it. Just treat it like any tool: learn its strengths, understand its limits, and most importantly—get curious about how to speak its language.
