Meet Daniel Shaffer: Vice President of CMSA Architects
Many of you have met or collaborated with Daniel Shaffer, Vice President of CMSA Architects. Known for his thoughtful design approach and deep roots in the community, Daniel brings both creativity and commitment to every project. We sat down with him recently to learn more about his background, design philosophy, and his vision for the future of CMSA.
Homegrown Perspective
While many are drawn to Sarasota for its sunshine and coastal charm, Daniel is one of the rare few who can proudly say he was born and raised here. After graduating from the University of Miami, he returned to his hometown to begin his career in architecture—a decision driven not by chance, but by heart.
“That’s easy—it’s family,” Daniel says. His family has lived in Sarasota for generations, and after experiencing life in Tampa and Miami, he realized just how much he valued the slower pace, the familiar landscape, and, most importantly, time spent with loved ones. Sarasota, for him, isn’t just a place to live—it’s home.
A Holistic Approach to Design
Daniel is not only passionate about architectural design, but also deeply involved in the interior design process. His goal? To create spaces that feel as good as they look—inside and out.
“I take a deep dive into what the client’s goals are, what’s important to them, and how they spend their time,” he explains. Whether it’s a quiet morning by a serene pool, a love for outdoor entertaining, or a desire for timeless elegance with a touch of modern Spanish flair, Daniel works closely with clients to create environments that reflect their lifestyle and aspirations. “Sometimes it’s about blending aesthetics to create something warm and uniquely theirs.”
Looking Ahead
With the retirement of CMSA founder Cliff Scholz at the end of last year, Daniel is focused on honoring that legacy while also shaping the firm’s next chapter.
“I want to continue his legacy of well-crafted, beautiful homes—always with the client’s best interest in mind and always working to bring their dream home to life,” he says. His vision also includes deepening the firm’s involvement in the local community and supporting the organizations that make Sarasota such a special place.
With deep roots and fresh perspective, Daniel is helping guide CMSA Architects into its next era—grounded in tradition, driven by design, and always focused on the people they serve.
